Configuring Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall
If you are having a problem viewing the menus in your Intranet and have Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) these programs have been configured to block scripts, ActiveX controls, Java applets, referral information, or advertisements.
The steps provided below are for Norton Internet Security 2003 and Norton Internet Security 2004. Please follow the steps provided below to resolve the issue: - Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
- Click on Personal Firewall.
- Click on yellow Configure (right column).
- Click on Custom Level. The "Customize Security Settings" window appears.
- Look at both the Java applet and ActiveX boxes. If either or both are set to block, lower the security level and then click OK.
- Try to connect to the web page again.
If elements of a web page are still being blocked, you can change the Website rule that is blocking scripts, Java applets, Active X controls, or referrer information by manually created a website rule.
Manually Create a Rule Please follow the steps below to create a rule for your website or page: - Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
- Click Privacy Control
- Click the yellow Configure button (right column). The Privacy Control window appears.
- Click Advanced. The Advanced Web Contents Options dialog box appears.
- Click Add Site (lower left corner).
- Type the URL for the web site that contains that web page. For example: www.test.com may be the web site that contains the page www.test.com/samples/sample1.html.
- Click OK. This step adds an entry to the list for that web site. Note that if the web site was already listed, this action does not add another entry.
- In the left frame, click the name of the website you just entered.
- In the right frame, select Global Settings tab.
- Make sure that the Permit radio button is selected in all the sections. If the Default setting is checked, you may need to uncheck the box to change the radio button selection.
- Click on the User Settings tab.
- Uncheck all the CheckBoxes.
- Select Permit radio button under the following areas - Cookies, JavaApplets, ActiveX Controls, and Pop-up Ads.
- Click on OK.
